Randal Kolo Muani’s 81st-minute header rescued a 1-1 draw for Juventus against Cagliari at the Unipol Domus on Sunday 11 October 2026, in Serie A’s sixth round. Daniel Maldini had given the hosts a first-half lead, but Kerim Alajbegovic’s cross supplied the breakthrough for Luciano Spalletti’s side. Kolo Muani then struck the crossbar as Juventus pursued a winner, while Elia Caprile’s saves helped Cagliari preserve their point.

Juventus had made the early running, with Pape Matar Sarr and Francisco Conceicao both trying their luck before a better opening fell to Nico Gonzalez. Zeki Celik’s delivery reached Weston McKennie, whose lay-off found Gonzalez in the area, but the move brought no reward. The visitors were seeing plenty of the ball without finding a finish, allowing Cagliari to emerge from that opening spell with the match still level.

Maldini provided the sharper response at the other end. His initial attempt was blocked, but Paul Mendy protected the loose ball and returned it into his path, allowing the forward to finish past Guglielmo Vicario. Mendy’s contribution kept the attack alive after the first effort had been stopped. For Maldini, the goal extended his scoring sequence to four consecutive league appearances and gave Cagliari an advantage to defend.

Alajbegovic and Zhegrova change Juventus’ attack

Cagliari also threatened through Harry Winks before the interval. His powerful shot from distance forced Vicario to turn the ball over the bar, a significant intervention during a half in which Juventus’ possession had not translated into control of the score. Gonzalez sought a response with a long-range effort that went wide, but the visitors reached half-time still trailing, with Caprile’s goal intact despite their early attacking promise.

Spalletti made two changes at the break, bringing on Alajbegovic and Edon Zhegrova for Conceicao and McKennie. Juventus renewed their pressure immediately after the restart, with Douglas Luiz testing Caprile with a low effort. The goalkeeper dealt with that attempt, but the half-time introductions soon became more influential: Zhegrova supplied a series of shots, while Alajbegovic would eventually deliver the cross that unlocked the home defence.

Zhegrova gave Caprile a more demanding examination with a powerful strike from inside the area, cutting in to find room before forcing the goalkeeper to repel his effort. He also threatened from further out, having one attempt deflected away and another curling shot saved. These were clearer tests of Cagliari’s resistance, yet Caprile continued to deny Juventus as the visitors spent more of the second half pressing around the hosts’ penalty area.

The equaliser arrived when Alajbegovic crossed from the left in the 81st minute. Kolo Muani got ahead of Adam Obert at the back post and directed his header home for his first goal of the season. After the succession of attempts that Caprile had kept out, Juventus found their way through with a delivery and a well-timed run. The two half-time arrivals had supplied both sustained pressure and the decisive assist.

Crossbar and Caprile deny a Juventus winner

Four minutes after scoring, Kolo Muani met another Alajbegovic cross at close range, but this time his contact sent the ball against the crossbar. It was Juventus’ clearest opportunity to take the lead during the closing stages, coming from much the same combination that had produced the equaliser. The striker had found space near goal again, only for the woodwork to deny him a second finish.

Juventus continued to push, and Andrea Cambiaso tested Caprile at the near post late on. The goalkeeper saved, adding another important stop to his work against Zhegrova earlier in the half. Cagliari had finally conceded to Kolo Muani’s header, but neither that breakthrough nor the visitors’ subsequent pressure brought another goal. Caprile’s interventions and the striker’s effort against the bar explain why Juventus’ recovery stopped at a draw.

The final whistle brought a confrontation between Spalletti and Fabio Pisacane, with both coaches shown red cards after they came face to face. The result left Cagliari fourth in Serie A and Juventus five points behind the leaders. Maldini’s fourth successive scoring appearance had helped the hosts retain their place near the top, while Kolo Muani’s first goal of the season secured a point for the visitors rather than a late victory.
